Learning how to clear your energy field is a very necessary skill that every empath should learn and develop. As empaths, we are like sponges that soak up all sorts of emotions and energy. When we have reached a point where we have soaked up too much of this energy, it can basically “gum up the works” and cause all sorts of random physical, emotional or mental problems.
In order for an empath to feel their best, they can’t be bogged down by energy and/or emotions of others that are sticking around in their energy fields. Knowing how and when to clear out your energy field will go a long way toward helping you on your quest for empath empowerment.
Below I will go over a very simple technique you can use to clean out your own energy field so that you are as free and clear as can be. Having a clear personal energy field, along with being grounded and centered are two of the best ways to get overactive empathy under control.
Intention is the Key to Energy Clearing
When it comes to clearing out your energy field (and just about anything in the realm of empathy, really), intention is key. Before you go about doing any sort of energy-type work, it is very helpful to set an intention for what you are about to do. Basically what this means is that you are reminding yourself of what purpose you are going to be working toward achieving, and then you simply do it.
In acupuncture-land (your author is an acupuncturist, in case you haven’t read my bio), there’s a saying that “energy follows intention”. This implies that so long as you are setting an intention for the goal you wish to create, the energy needed to make that goal happen will naturally follow the intent. It’s like going about something with laser-like focus, dead set on making something happen, as opposed to just kind of doing something while not really paying attention to what you are doing.
So the first thing to keep in mind when clearing out your energy field, is to simply set the intention that you will be doing work that will help you achieve the goal of clearing out your energy field. To do this, simply state your purpose, either to yourself or out loud, let your awareness be focused solely on said purpose, and then go for it! I’ll go into more detail below.
Technique to Clear Your Energy Field
I have mentioned in other posts that I’m not a super huge fan of visualizing white light as the be-all-end-all solution to overactive empathy that so many people make it out to be, but for the purpose of clearing out your energy field, white light can be an amazing tool. I’ll walk you through a super simple meditation technique that allows you to utilize your empath superpower so you can clear out your energy field today!
First of all, make sure that you are in a safe space where you won’t be disturbed. Turn your phone off or just leave it in another room altogether. Get yourself comfortable and relish in the quiet.
Once you are in a safe space, take a few deep breaths and get yourself as grounded as possible. This will help you to connect with yourself and your energy field. Spend a moment or two with your breathing and really allow yourself to feel the sensations in your body, mind and spirit.
I recommend doing a sort of scan of the body, starting at the top of the head and working your way all the way down to your feet. Notice if or where there’s any sort of tension, heaviness, or general “gunk-ey-ness” in your body. This may be an actual physical sensation or more of an energetic sensation.
Whatever sensations you notice, simply observe and acknowledge them without judgement. It is important to accept yourself as you are, wherever you are, regardless of what’s going on or how you feel. You are here now, doing the self work necessary to get to a better place as an empath, and that is all that matters.
As I mentioned earlier, empaths need to have clear energy so that they may operate at their most optimal. Set the intention that you will be cleaning out your energy field so that you may be free and clear and able to feel your best and operate at your highest potential.
Once you are grounded and have really felt what’s going on in your body, state with confidence (either out loud or to yourself) that you will be clearing out all of the debris from your energy field that no longer serves you, and didn’t belong to you in the first place.
Once you have stated your intention, visualize in your mind’s eye a wonderful, cleansing white light shining down on you, from the very top of your head, making you feel warm and fuzzy. Imagine that white light then washing down, around and through you, all the way from your head down to your toes, like a waterfall of cleansing light. Feel that warm light washing away all of the gunk you noticed from step #2, and allow it to be cleansed from your body and absorbed by the earth, where it will be recycled and transformed into something positive.
Try your best to not hold on to anything that’s been stuck in your energy field. If it feels tense, heavy or uncomfortable, you do not need it, so use the white light to rinse it away.
(If visualization is difficult for you, don’t stress too much about not being able to see anything. Try to just feel warm light instead. It may help to do this technique out in the sunshine, moonlight or starlight).
Once you have used your intention to use white light to cleanse yourself, spend a moment or two noticing how different you feel. How’s the tension now? Any heaviness? You will probably feel a whole lot lighter after completing an energetic cleansing like this.
If you have never done a cleansing like this and have been carrying around energetic baggage for a long time, you will probably find yourself feeling very exhausted afterward. This is natural, as your body is feeling the shock/relief of no longer having to carry around such a heavy burden anymore. Go with it and allow yourself to rest as much as you need to in order to recover.
Eat some grounding, protein-dense food, drink some water, maybe take a shower or bath and then have a nap. It may take you a day or two to recover, but once you start to regain your strength, you should feel drastically better.
The Bottom Line
When it comes to cleaning out your energy field, after your initial cleansing, pay attention to how you feel and trust your intuition to tell you when it’s time to clean house again. This may be something that you need to do on a daily basis (which is totally fine), so make sure you set aside the time to allow this to happen.
You now have several tools in your toolbox that you can use whenever you need to to keep a handle on your empathy. Practice using your tools often and see if you don’t notice yourself becoming more focused, more centered and much stronger in your power. You are well on your way to empath empowerment!
